Triffia Updates
Top Scores Ranks Hall of Fame Commands Statistics Updates FAQ
Updates - October 2009

+ A limit of 10 species changes per 10k has been added because of certain people with tiny balls.

Updates - December 2007

+ The Statistics page has been split up into different sections and now shows the top 5 in each category.

+ The scrambler routine has been improved slightly. All words > 1 character should now be fully scrambled.

+ Cardassian, Dominion & Ferengi rank images have been added.

 That is all.

Updates - February 2007

+ Triffia has been rewritten to run on a linux OS for our convenience. The bot is mostly the same but there have also been some small changes made as follows:

+ You can now report or view answers for the last 20 questions.

+ The idle timeout has been lowered from 5 questions to 3.

+ Not all commands will now resume Triffia. You can look up answers to previous questions and view your rank etc without waking the bot from being idle. The normal game commands such as !h and !n and so on will still resume play.

+ We've lowered the delay between questions to 45 seconds.

As with all new code there may be some teething troubles. If you notice anything out of the ordinary we'd be greatful if you'd !report it.

 Enjoy and have fun.

Updates - April - May 2006

+ The website has been moved to make it easier for us to maintain. The new url is http://triffia.boldlygoingnowhere.org. Update your bookmarks.

+ A new Statistics page has been added.

+ Player profiles now include all-time statistics. (These only show if you have a Hall of Fame entry).

+ The FAQ page has been updated.

+ Bonuses now exist for streaks up to 1000 for the nutjobs among us.

Updates - July - September 2005

+ Triffia now has over 10000 questions in its database!

+ Some new stats have been added to Player and Hall of Fame Profiles. You can now view the number of 20+, 50+ & 100+ streaks you've made along with a few other extra stats.

+ Rewards are now species specific. A lot of new ones have also been added.

+ Extra bonuses have been added up to 250.

+ The time a player remains at the top of the scores table after reaching 10000 credits has been changed to 14 days.

Updates - April 2005

+ Player Profiles containing statistics have been added to the Top Scores and Hall of Fame pages. You can view these by clicking your name in either table.

Updates - February 2005

 Changes - 3rd February 2005:

+ Most of the Triffia code has been rewritten as a dll so it runs faster, smoother and so it can
handle the additional changes we've made below. This change might mean the occasional
bug but please bear with us while we get the new updates running smoothly.

+ You can now play Triffia as a member of different Star Trek species. The species we've added
 are as follows:

Federation, Borg, Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian, Dominion and Ferengi.

To change your species simply type one of the following commands:

 !federation
 !borg
 !klingon
 !romulan
 !cardassian
 !dominion
 !ferengi

You can also check your species by typing !species or use !species nick to check the species
 of another player.

 There are some restrictions, however:

You may only change your species once per calendar day

(Triffia days end at 11pm or 12 midnight (GMT) depending on where it is currently hosted).

Changing your species will cost you 100 credits each time

(Meaning you must have at least 101 credits before you can change).

+ The scores and ranks pages have been altered to reflect this change. You can now view
scores by different species by clicking on the species emblems at the top of the page.

+ Over 2000 questions have been added since the last update in September.

+ We've also added a Frequently asked questions page to the site.

Updates - September 2004

After observing the new bot running for the last 5-6 weeks we've decided to implement a few changes we believe will improve gameplay.

The Score Situation:

First of all, thanks to everyone who responded on the forums or messaged us in the channel on this. We really appreciate the feedback.

The general consensus is that most people would prefer to work their way through the ranks than have a reset of everyone or the leading players. Therefore, once a player reaches 10,000 credits their score will be reset within 48 hours or the next time they answer a question. Their achievement will be added to the hall of fame. The 48 hours is to allow time at the top of the scores page without remaining there indefinately.

To clarify this:

Only a player who reaches 10,000 credits will have their score reset. No other scores will be affected.

Hopefully the majority of people will find this solution to their liking

Changes - 3rd September 2004:

+ The most noticeable change is the rewards have been completely revised. There are now multiple rewards for each value from 5, 10 and then in increments of 10 up to 100 and beyond. Triffia will pick one of these at random.

We're also accepting suggestions for additional rewards. You can submit these by using the !report command.

+ Bonuses have been altered slightly to reflect the additional rewards.

+ !hint text has been updated. If Triffia doesn't find text in the first answer it will now search the second alt. This is mainly for questions which have numbers as answers with the word form as the first alt, (eg. forty seven) but will work for all questions. It's slightly experimental and providing it doesn't confuse people it should remain. The shorter command, !h text also works.

+ !answers has been altered so that questions with lots of alts display on two lines. This should ensure that all alt answers are visible.

+ Building on the report system slightly, you can now view answers for the last 10 questions asked by Triffia. The command for this is !answers ### where ### is the question number (again, the shorter commands also work). Be warned, abuse of this command (namely collecting answers) will lead to a permanent ban.

+ Hyphens in hints have been "inverted" so they show up as a white dash on a brown background. These may not display properly on some linux clients but the majority of mirc users should find it useful.

+ The majority of commands (used properly) can now be used to bring Triffia out of idle mode and continue questions.

+ Extra stats have been added to record the actual number of questions answered and the amount of bonuses awarded for each player. This change will take an extra day or two while previous stats are calculated. We may add this to the scores page or hall of fame page or both.

+ The code has been altered and database slightly restructured to ensure Triffia cycles through its entire database (currently 7000+ questions) without ever repeating. Including after restarts.

+ Reconstructing of the question database is pretty much finished although there's still some tidying to be done. We plan to have this done within the next 2-3 weeks. In the meantime, you can help out by reporting any mistakes you notice. All reports are checked daily.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions on these changes, come and bother us in the channel.

Enjoy.

Updates - July 2004

As of Sunday 18th July, Triffia was replaced with a new bot. A new ranking system was introduced and all previous scores were discarded.

Changes - 18th July 2004:

+ Most significantly, the database is being tidied up. Questions are being checked for grammar, alt answers, silly characters etc.
+ Silly questions such as "What stardate..." will be removed.
+ The majority of the "Rules of Acquisition" questions which we believe promotes pasting will be removed.
+ While we tidy up the questions, there will be less in the active database. Please bear with us for a few weeks while we do this.

+ You will need to re-register all of your alt. nicks with the new bot.

+ The top scores page has been updated to include sortable stats for credits, highest streak and highest CPS.

+ The ranks have been updated to reflect a more realistic Starfleet ranking system and to give more attainable targets - especially for newer players. There are now 24 ranks in total.

+ Shorter commands have been added to make playing easier, !h for !hint, !v for !vowels, !a for
!answers and !n for !next. All of the old commands are still usable.

+ The number of alt. nicks is now limited to 4, however you can add and remove these as you please (no one should ever really need more than 5 nicks). See the commands page for details.
